A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN INTERIOR DESIGNER
“Oh what a fun job! I love shopping” TRUE STATEMENT. Being an interior designer is a BLAST. And I do love shopping, but there is sooo much more to it than shopping endlessly for your favorite friends (although, my clients are awesome).
So, I’m going to take you along for a day in the life of being na interior designer here in Williamsburg, VA. Then you’ll know what it’s like and how much effort goes into each design plan!
BEHIND THE SCENES: If you want more behind the scenes, follow along on Instagram. I love to give design tips, share my favorite fabrics and wallpapers, and we do “A Day in the Life” about every month so you can come along to see what designing a space looks like.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF… APRIL WALTRIP INTERIORS OWNER + CREATIVE DIRECTOR, APRIL WALTRIP
Here’s a snapshot of a single day in the life this week. Although not every workday looks the same, they are definitely all this fun fill and non-stop busy!

6:30 AM Wake up!
7:00 Starts with coffee
7:20 Are we on time? Water the plants. Kids running behind- skip it.
7:30 Out the door to drop off the kids
8:00 In the office to check email, calendar & get together everything for the day’s work
8:30 Complete a Design Report as part of the client consultation recap
9:30 Finalize a design presentation board for a primary bedroom
10:45 Sourcing furnishings for a new client project
Sourcing bedroom furnishings is my favorite! Here’s what the design report looks like Part of a Design Presentation: Mood Board
12:00 Lunch & check email again
12:45 Back to sourcing, but this time rugs for a family room
2:00 Time for an Iced coffee (again)
2:30 Listen to a podcast while I pop over to a site visit
3:00 Meet with the contractor to check on progress, confirm tile placement and cabinet color
4:00 Pause for the day. Head home to make dinner & spend much needed time with family
7:30 Group Book Study with friends

… Then eventually things slow down. Some days I pick back up with the fun stuff like: sourcing furniture, drooling over wallpaper or writing a blog post (because I truly LOVE working) and other nights it’s off to bed!
If you’re thinking, “April, how do I get your fabulous team to work on my project?”, we would love to help. FILL OUT A DESIGN INQUIRY HERE and let’s get to know each other.
